You’ve made it to the final interview round. You are so close to getting the job. If you’ve already made it this far you are clearly doing something right! But there is still some work to do. The final interview is your opportunity to solidify yourself as the best candidate for the job. Erase any questions or doubts the employer may have. It’s your time to shine and win the job. 

I spoke with some of our Legal recruiters in Toronto to get some advice to pass on to candidates who’ve made it to the final round of job interviews. Below is what they suggest you need to do to make it over the finish line:

Keep doing what you are doing – it’s working so far

There is a reason you have made it this far in the interview process. The company likes you and can envision you in the role. So, there is no need to make drastic changes to your interview strategy at this point. Keep doing what you are doing. 

Give them more insight into who you are as a person

Employers want to learn about who you are as a person. They want to see who they will be potentially working with every day. So, be yourself. Authenticity is key. Let your personality shine through, as cultural fit is often just as important as skills and experience. 

Tie up any loose ends from the previous interview

Use this time to circle back and address anything you think needs more attention. Now is also a great time to highlight your achievements. Be ready to discuss your past accomplishments and how they demonstrate your ability to succeed in the new role. Quantify your achievements with numbers when possible. Make it clear how you can help the company if you’re chosen for the job. 

Show excitement – make it clear you really want the job 

Now is the time to make it abundantly clear you want the job. Communicate it’s your number one choice. Express your excitement about the opportunity and the company. Enthusiasm can be contagious and leave a positive impression.

Double down on company research 

Deepen your understanding of the company’s mission, values, culture, and recent developments. Be prepared to discuss how your skills and experiences align with their goals. You can expect to get asked more specific questions. Some employers will ask questions related to the company to see how much research you did ahead of the interview. 

Ask specific questions about the role and responsibilities

Make sure you have a comprehensive understanding of the job description and how your background makes you a perfect fit. Be ready to provide specific examples of how your skills and experiences will benefit the company. Have thoughtful questions ready to ask the interviewers. This shows your genuine interest in the role and helps you assess if the company is the right fit for you.

A Final Word On Final Job Interviews

The interview process can be gruelling. It’s stressful and it takes a lot of time and effort.  But if you put the work in, you’ll be rewarded. 

Once the interview is over send a thank-you email within 24 hours. Express your appreciation for the opportunity, reiterate your enthusiasm for the role, and briefly remind them why you’re a great fit. Then sit tight and wait for the call you’ve been waiting for.
