Summary: The Corporate Engineer is the primary point-person responsible for validating corporate project designs in accordance with specifications and governing Codes. To achieve these important goals, the Corporate Engineer will review project requirements and scope, review all designs and design documents. The Corporate Engineer is responsible to create and sign off on the design registration (submission) for each unit supplied and installed by the company.
Job Duties: - Hold and maintain in good standing a Professional Engineer license in all the areas supported by the business.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of Codes and regulations applicable to the elevator and escalator industry for the areas supported by the business.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the various products and designs supplied and installed by the business in order to complete and sign off as a Professional Engineer on the design submissions.
- Review project commitments: scope, deliverables, specifications.
- Verify designs throughout the drawing approval process in line with ethical working practices for Professional Engineers.
- Ensure compliance with Elevator Code and local jurisdictional requirements.
- Assist in providing solutions to Code non-compliances where the case arises.
- Monitor design progress for items which are potential "changed conditions" of the contract.
- Alert Project Coordinator, Construction Superintendent and branch of any such areas identified which are, or may become, a "changed condition".
- Provide technical assistance to all company personnel as required for business purposes in new construction, modernization, maintenance and service.
- Assist in the preparation of field design changes and updating of drawings for field use as required.
- Liaise with other engineering and design groups as required to ensure the needs of the Canadian business are met.
- Liaise with local supplier engineering and design groups as required to ensure the needs of the Canadian business are met.
- Liaise with Authority Having Jurisdictions as required to ensure the acceptance of designs.
- Focus on Quality. Check the details of own work carefully. Analyze information in a thorough and detailed way. Spot critical errors that others have overlooked. Identify important details and ensure that they are correct. Maintain a focus on detail when dealing with routine work.

Performance criteria: - Design compliance to Code (validation of project designs),
- Timeliness of BMG Engineering (reviews and submissions in line with customer/branch schedule),

Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering,
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the elevator industry or relevant industry
- Professional Engineer designation in a Canadian Jurisdiction,
- Working knowledge of English
- IT Literacy, including but not limited to e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet
- Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting (preferably AutoCAD)
- Ability to work with engineering and mathematical concepts applicable to the work and solve practical problems relevant to the work.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and letters
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, clients, general contractors, engineers, architects, inspectors, company personnel and the general public
