Your Role as Senior Power Systems Engineer, P.Eng
 
Reporting to the Manager of Power Systems Engineering, you are responsible for performing engineering design and studies for various electrical distribution and substation projects (from 600V up to 230kV voltage levels). This includes preparing electrical deliverables such as engineering scopes of work, cost estimates, electrical drawings, layouts, specifications, data sheets and protection and control schemes. You will also establish project strategy/schedule, review drawings, and ensure elements of design and detailing adhere to jurisdictional codes and requirements.
 
Your Key Accountabilities
  • Design distribution systems utilizing client standards including bill of materials, yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, ground grid, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC and DC power systems and cable lists.
  • Design protection and control scheme; including Breakers and Relays, CT’s and PT’s selection, using IEEE standards and applicable codes.
  • Prepare calculations equipment specifications and data sheets.
  • Prepare scope of work, estimates, schedules, budgets, and reports.
  • Prepare new and modify existing relay drawings including relay panel arrangements, single lines, three lines, AC and DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.
  • Prepare new and modify existing reports/studies such as Protection and Coordination, Arc Flash, Load Flow and Grounding.
  • Develop and evaluate plans for major projects.
  • Coordinate with other discipline departments, such as Civil/Structural/Automation to integrate packages and work activities.
  • Progressive design and project management responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to junior team members.
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.
  • Some marketing responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or power systems engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in the Province of Ontario. Alternatively, registration as a professional engineer in another Canadian province or territory, who is actively working towards professional registration in Ontario.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant power systems or electrical engineering experience in an engineering or project management role with a technical firm.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and guidelines with strong industrial experience.
  • Experience in engineering design for surface and underground mining operations is a strong asset.
  • Leadership and Project Management experience is essential.
  • Knowledge, experience, and recognition in the Canadian mining industry is a definite asset but all mining industry recognition will be acknowledged.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in medium and high voltage power distribution and substation design.
  • Experience with power system studies (load flow and protective device coordination using Easy power, SKM and ETAP)
  • Knowledge in commissioning of electrical distribution systems.
  • Extensive computer knowledge in industry applications, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and other specialized programming platforms.
  • Ability to manage projects, including managing budgets and schedules.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with exceptional report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, conflict resolution, decision-making, and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment to meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel as required and attend meetings and field visits on client sites.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle.
 
Term: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)
