Reporting to the Manager of Structural Engineering Services, you are responsible for a variety of engineering work activities including drafting and designing of structural systems, development of technical documents, mentorship, conducting site visits, and project coordination activities.
 
Your Key Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for a variety of structural/civil engineering work activities including:
    • Producing quality drawing packages to client standards, using a multitude of CAD software, including but not limited to AutoCAD, Microstation, Revit, Civil 3D, and Inventor
    • Coach and mentor team members and contribute to the growth and development of the structural team
    • Training designers on 2D and 3D software
    • Performing site visits to retrieve field information (including using our in-house 3D laser scanning equipment if deemed required), and
    • Project coordination activities
  • Liaise with team members in other disciplines, including other designers, EITs, and engineers to ensure client needs are met.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections with other members of the team to assess existing structural systems, identify potential issues, and provide recommendations for remedial action.
  • Check drawings prepared by others for design and drafting standards.
  • Conduct drawing QA/QC reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation of capital cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with sub-consultants.
  • Coordinate with vendors to obtain information, quotations, etc.
  • Represent client’s interests in dealing with customers, clients, sub-contractors or suppliers.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering Technology.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant design experience at an engineering firm or in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to participate in multidisciplinary coordination to identify design and drawing inputs.
  • Strong knowledge of industry applications, including AutoCAD, Microstation and Microsoft Office.
  • Skilled in using Inventor, Revit and/or Civil 3D applications is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of engineering design standards, codes, and guidelines.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing high-priorities.
  • Industrial experience is an asset.
  • Strong numerical ability and reasoning skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution and time management skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and planning skills.
  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with clients and vendors.
  • Self-disciplined and self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision or in a team environment.
  • Effectively liaise with team members in other disciplines to ensure client needs are met.
  • A valid driver’s licence with access to a personal vehicle is required.
  • Willingness to travel and to go on site on occasion.
